Buffalo’s Flexible Seating Options for the Future

From bouncy to speedy, this new furniture is certainly unique

On October 28, Buffalo High School started testing out new flexible seating options for potential use in  resource areas. The furniture is on loan from the company SteelCase so that students and staff can try it out and decide which pieces to purchase.  Many of the chairs and tables are extremely unique compared to existing furniture, and a lot of them were better than other options the school has previously offered.

Here are some of the best flexible seating options that may be at BHS starting in the 2026-2027 school year.

Self-Righting Seat

Comfort – 19/20
Support – 7/10
Bonus – -0.5

Overall Score – 8/10
Pretty comfortable chair, loses points for falling over more easily than you’d expect.

High Roller

Comfort – 14/20
Support – 6/10
Bonus – N/A

Overall Score – 7/10
Extremely average chair, nothing special about it.  Should be the standard for any chair with wheels.

The Running Start

Comfort – 20/20
Support – 10/10
Bonus – +5

Overall Score – 15/10
Amazing chair, comes with a cupholder, desk, and almost frictionless wheels.  Can be used as a skateboard.  This chair is too nice for Buffalo High School.

“Why is there a handle there”

Comfort – 11/20
Support – 3/10
Bonus – -1 (handle)

Overall Score – 4/10
Super awkward looking and requires you to hold yourself up.  They should have just given it a back instead of the weird tail thing.

Luxurious Lounge

Comfort – 16/20
Support – 3/10
Bonus – +1

Overall Score – 7/10
Gets bonus points for the table, but only 1 point because the table is just a bit small.  The support is a little too firm to be good.

Swiss Cheese  Cathedra

Comfort – 15/20
Support – 6/10
Bonus – +2

Overall Score – 9/10
Gigantic chair that requires you to lean forward to even reach the table.  The wall surrounding it gives privacy, but it also allows people to see you are there.  Pretty good chair.
