In class at Buffalo High School, it’s never out of the ordinary to see fellow classmates with earbuds in and tuned out of the lesson even when their phones are in the phone caddy. In fact, according to a 2019 study by Music Ally, approximately 82% of modern teens listen to music every day, whereas only around 50% of teens listened to music every day in 2000. Many people wonder how music affects teens differently…

It’s so easy to feel like everyone knows what they’re doing and you’re getting lost. Wondering what your major should be, what college you should go to, and what color prom dress to get. You’re probably worrying more than you ever have, trying to scramble to savor the last few days like everybody tells you that you should. If you blink, you’ll miss it, and your name will be called and you’ll walk down the…

Many people see Nerf Wars as excitement and competition, but for the student organizing the game, it’s much more than that. Even though the event is nothing new to Buffalo, there is plenty of planning, organizing, and responsibility that goes into making sure everything runs smoothly. The students who participated circled the school in below-zero temperatures. The protest lasted approximately 20 minutes before most of the students returned to the building and joined their fourth-hour…

On October 28, Buffalo High School started testing out new flexible seating options for potential use in resource areas. The furniture is on loan from the company SteelCase so that students and staff can try it out and decide which pieces to purchase. Many of the chairs and tables are extremely unique compared to existing furniture, and a lot of them were better than other options the school has previously offered. Here are some of…

The once busy, vibrant Buffalo High School library now has a completely different vibe from past years. In previous years, walking into BHS’s library felt energetic and inviting–a space where students felt welcomed to spend time with their friends in the morning. This year, entering the library feels calmer; more like an academic workspace than a fun place to hang out. Over the summer, BHS underwent major construction, completely transforming many aspects of the building.…
