Theatre Tech Crew: Hopelessly Devoted to Grease

A large influx of freshmen on the Theatre Tech Crew may set the scenes for years to come

The cast of the Fall Musical, Grease, is putting in work to learn blocking, scenes and choreography during after school rehearsal. But while the actors are on stage, who helps with the behind-the-scenes of a show? Well, the answer to that is BHS’ Theatre Tech Crew.

I think it’s great that many freshmen are now interested in tech.

Tech consists of working on light and sound cues, building, painting, maneuvering the set onstage and working the spotlight among many other things. Set work is just starting up for this season, with a very large group this year. During actor rehearsals during the week, tech crew is working simultaneously to set up stage cues and learn how to manage light and sound boards.

At the informational meeting on September 15, there was an extreme influx of freshmen who showed up, and nearly all of them plan to continue the activity. Though this might seem a handful for the smaller number of upperclassmen, they are excited to take on the challenge and are glad to see so much interest in theater tech.

“I think it’s great that many freshmen are now interested in tech,” Ty DuBois ‘27 said. “I’ve done tech since 8th grade so I have five years of experience. Our numbers have dwindled down before in the past but it’s so refreshing to see it’ll probably grow.”

With a new group of faces ready to put in the work to help make a show, the BHS Tech Crew is off to a strong start this season.
