A Buffalo Meet for a Reforming Team
A return to form and a showcase of what Bison Distance is

In 2025, the Buffalo Cross Country team did not host their own meet. This year, the Bison decided otherwise. The BHS and BCMS Cross Country teams have returned to Buffalo Heights to host their own Cross Country Invitational.
On September 24, Buffalo competed against St. Michael Albertville, Monticello, Rogers, Minnetonka, and Minneapolis Washburn in 6 different races. Two 3K (1.86 Miles) races for Middle School boys and girls, and then four 5K (3.12 Miles) races for each Varsity and JV team.
The invitational was notably small compared to other Cross Country meets. Whereas the St. Olaf High School showcase on September 3rd had 500+ people per race, the Buffalo meet total wasn’t even 400 racers.
The conditions were very wet and misty, with the rain in the prior part of the afternoon affecting the course’s footing. The course, however, starting on an uphill, was largely a downhill race except for a portion with a large uphill before the finish line.
Results from this meet show that after much reform and change to the 2026 Cross Country season, the team is back on their feet and prepared to run after losing seniors like Justin Woodruff and Tristan Lenton, the 1600M Boys State Champion.

The High School team is small this year, with only 8 boys on the High School team total, 5 of whom are freshmen. Even with a team of only 17 runners, however, the Juniors and Seniors of Cross Country still show what running as members of the Herd is truly about. With Gavan Jacobson ‘28 running sub-19 in the 5K, along with Cady Macheel ‘28 running sub-19 and setting the Girls 5K School Record, the Buffalo Cross Country team is back in action!
