The Bison Beginning
Seniors welcome a new generation of Bison to the field as Buffalo kicks off the 2026 football season

Thursday, September 3, 2026, marked not only the first football game of the 2026 season but also a new Bison tradition amongst seniors and newly found Bison kindergarteners of the district.
Energy and excitement buzzed across Bison Field West in preparation for the game against the Brainerd Warriors, but also the unification to take place between the classes of 2027 and 2039.
Buffalo Hanover-Montrose School District announced in the Spring that all of the elementary schools would shed their individual mascots and become a part of the Buffalo Bison Herd. The halftime celebration welcomed the kindergarteners onto the field for the very first time as Bison. Seniors and kindergarteners stormed the field and met in the middle, seniors handing them inspirational notes and B1 decals.
The celebration featured stuents on opposite ends of their educational journeys, meeting in the middle, both celebrating being a Bison.
The game against the Brainerd Warriors was a well fought first game to kick off the season.
The student section did not falter in school spirit all the way through into over time. The roar of the stands pushed the Bison football team to stand tall during a close loss.
The teams alternated scoring points for a solid well fought two hours of the night. The final score being 32-38 in a close fight to victory for the Brainerd Warriors.
Despite the impending loss, students and cheerleaders alike, roared classic bison chants, shaking the stands. School spirit and sportsmanship are always a constant at Buffalo High School, and Thursday night was no exception.
The high energy and faith in their bison football players kept the night lively and a high-energy kick off to the 2026-2027 school year for all grades.
