Boys Soccer Defeats Alexandria in Rematch of Section Finals
Stone Hoel led the offense with a hat trick in a key late-season matchup
The Bison Boys Soccer team defeated the Alexandria Cardinals at home on Monday, October 5. The Bison offence was led by Stone Hoel ‘27, who finished the game with a hat trick.
Hoel managed to get through the Cardinal’s strong defense early into the game, starting the Bison off with a goal early. The Cardinals were playing very defensively while making sure to not allow a second goal.
This game was a rematch of last year’s Section Finals, which saw the Bison win and advance to State. After the early goal, the game turned into a stalemate with neither team being able to get another goal. The stalemate resulted from the Cardinals playing very defensively and not allowing a good shot to be taken, but because of how defensively they were playing they couldn’t get the ball out of their side.
For the first half the ball was just ping-ponging back and forth from the Cardinal’s goalie getting the ball and kicking it down to the Bison defense who sent it straight back in.
Things got exciting during the later part of second half when Hoel scored a second goal which was followed by a third from Guthrie Lind ‘27. After that a whole slew of goals occurred which resulted in two for the Cardinals, another goal from Hoel, and a goal from Landon Kirschner ‘28.
“It was one of the smoothest games of the season, in terms of how we played,” Lind said. “Our passing and movement really clicked in the game. We’ve made some switches in positions and we’re a lot more connected now than we were at the start of the season. We’re hitting our stride at the right time.”
This last goal got Hoel to a hat-trick which was the last goal of the game leaving the game ending in 5-2.
