I joined The Hoofprint because when I read stories, I smile, so I wanted to be one of the people making the readers smile. I also just love writing. At night I’ll often find myself reflecting on my day and I often get stuck on what I think is awesome and what I’m proud of myself for accomplishing. For example, during cross country, after I get a new personal record, I look back on it and I become so proud of myself for pushing through and getting to that point. It’s the same for writing. I get so proud of myself for how far I’ve come in writing and what I’ve been able to create, so I wanted to hear other people’s reasons for joining The Hoofprint.
“My older sister was in Hoofprint and I admired her, “ said former Editor-in-Chief, Valerie Østvik 12’. “I also liked seeing what they created. I got lucky because she would stay after [school] and I would watch her do it. I felt called to this specific space because the people want to do it, not need to do it.”
The Hoofprint, however, isn’t just about stories. Different kinds of people contribute to The Hoofprint in many other ways whether that be editing, taking photos, contributing to the games, or working on the website.“I had been playing The 5 daily for years, “ said Games Editor, Michael Schroeder IV 27’. “I loved the game and its community. When I got the opportunity to write the questions instead of just answer them, I had to say yes. I’m glad I did. The work has been a blast and the environment is spectacular. What a great group of people to be around.”
So many people have joined The Hoofprint. In fact, The Hoofprint staff has pushed to more than 70 members for the first time in history, and they all joined for different reasons.
“Part of the reason I joined Hoofprint was just because I love being active, “ said Writer, Tyler Spalinger 30’. “It makes me busy and it gives me stuff to do outside of school that isn’t just sitting on my butt all day. Another part of the reason I joined is because it’s writing and because of the teacher who runs it… I think a major point [of joining] was that I like writing and that the community is super nice.”
The Hoofprint had nearly 100,000 views in the month of September and it will likely continue growing. The Hoofprint has such a big impact on so many people and it’s all because of the people who have put in hard work to get it where it is now.
“I joined [The Hoofprint] because I saw all the cool things [the staff] did my freshman year, “ said Photo Editor, Anna Utsch 28’. “I joined sophomore year and decided I’d try doing photography for it. I ended up falling in love with the art of photography, and am now the editor for it.”
The Hoofprint is very important to so many people. It’s so much more than just a newspaper. It’s a community built on ideas and talented people
