Last night (09/03) was a big night at Bison field West, with the football home opener, the first B1 Bison night, and teacher appreciation night.
In this edition of Surfing the Student section, we interviewed people in attendance at last night’s game and asked them their thoughts on the night. 🦬

Last night (09/03) was an intense game for the BHS

Last night (09/03) was an intense game for the BHS boys football team as they went head to head against the Brainerd Warriors in their season home opener.

The game had opened with the first ever B1 bison night, which was just introduced this year as a way to connect BHS to the surrounding elementary schools of the district.
The ceremony involved this year’s senior class (‘27) and the kindergarten class (‘39) lining up on both sides of the field before running to meet in the middle, where the seniors gave their younger counterparts handwritten notes, advice, and a B1 sticker to welcome them to their educational journey.

The night then progressed to the game itself, where it
seemed as if that the two teams were evenly matched. The score would consistently go back-and-forth between the Warriors and the Bison until ultimately ending the first half with a Bison lead 13-9.
During half-time, the Buffalo boys had their teacher appreciation night, where the seniors had walked the field with their favorite teachers as a show of gratitude toward the people who had helped them in their education.

After half-time had concluded, the thrilling fight for the win once again resumed, until eventually finishing in a close Bison loss in overtime. The final score was 38-32.🦬

With yesterday (08/31) being Freshman first day an

With yesterday (08/31) being Freshman first day and today (09/01) being the first day for all grades K-12, the 2026-27 school year is now officially in full swing!

Yesterday’s events ran smoothly, which included anywhere from fun advisory games and icebreakers to school tours and mock schedules— all done with the ultimate purpose of acclimating freshmen into the BHS environment & experience.

Today’s first day, which was the beginning of the regular routine and schedule, began with the senior sunrise at 6:15am; a tradition created for seniors to commemorate their last first day of high school.
Seniors were invited to meet at the rock in front of the school, take pictures, and show off their unique ‘last first day’ shirts.
The school session then continued into the normal pattern of a school day, where students experienced their classes for the first time, got used to their schedules, and prepared for what the school year would bring. 🦬

Welcome back, Buffalo High School!
Yesterday evening (08/26), BHS hosted the high school Open House to mark the start of the 2026-27 school year.

The event lasted from 4:30-7:30, and provided all kinds of resources needed before the beginning of the term— students could sign up for activity passes, pick up their parking passes, have their pictures taken for the yearbook, and do whatever they needed to prepare for the upcoming semester.

Though students were welcome to attend whenever they wanted, the Open House also included a few programs and meetings for students who have questions or require introductions. 🦬
