Homecoming Dance is a Team Effort

From decorating and a finding a dress to supervision and safety, a lot of behind the scenes work goes into the dance

The students and staff at BHS are doing many things to get ready for this year’s Homecoming Dance this weekend. From decorations, to dresses, to music, everyone is contributing to the dance in some way to make it as fun as possible.

Students have been preparing to go to the dance for the last few weeks, and with the dance coming up this weekend.

“I’m excited to hang out with friends and dance,” Josi Scherber ‘28 said. “I think dressing up, hanging out with friends, dancing, and having a good time makes it memorable.”

A new freshman Amelia Lindeman ‘29 also is attending the dance with a date.

“I can’t wait to go with Grant, my date.” Lindeman said. “I think what makes homecoming memorable is the people you go with, because if you go with someone you don’t like or you’re not a fan of, it could be a traumatic experience and you’re more likely to forget it. My expectations for the dance are for it to be fun, and I can’t wait for some of the songs.”

The Student Council has also been hard at work to get the dance ready.

“We’ve been preparing for the dance since about the first week of school.” Emry Mullenbach ‘29 said. “The seniors pick the theme and the rest of us just find out. The hardest part is getting posters done on time and trying to find enough chaperones for the dance. I’m not really nervous about anything, I think our posters turned out good and I think people will say that they had a great time at homecoming.”

Administration also plays an important role when it comes to the homecoming dance.

“For the dance we’re mostly oversight and supervision preparation,” said Principal Mark Mischke. “So our role would be to say yes to guest passes that are coming, to make sure we have support in place, whether it be like a police officer at the dance, which is typically through the activities office. The facilities are ready to roll with custodial staff. And we work really closely with the student council advisors who do a lot of this work with us on a lot of that similar work.”

Mischke also explained what his hopes are to make sure this dance is fun and safe.

“My goals are always safe and high participation, so I hope we get a bunch of kids, you know, upwards of 1000 kids sometimes attend the dance, which is kind of cool, and then just making sure it’s a safe environment for kids, you know, kids can dance without getting hurt. Then the space is safe for everybody to be able to have a great time. “

The students express their gratitude to everyone working for the dance.

“I would say thank you to everyone for helping by putting your time and effort into working on it, putting everything together and spending your days helping us have fun!” Scherber said. “I want to say thank you to the people who prepare it because I obviously don’t know how much work it is and they’re preparing for a lot of kids,” Lindeman said.

The dance starts at 7 p.m. on Saturday night and ends at 10 p.m..
