Kicking off Unified Week, BHS hosted Unified’s “Under the Sea” Prom this past Saturday. After students and attendees got checked in, they were provided a corsage or boutonniere before walking the red carpet. After spending a good amount of volunteer time, the Cafeteria was given a makeover and completely transformed into the ocean theme. Jellyfish hung up, pieces of coral around the cafeteria, balloons, streamers, and lights were all included in the hard work that…

Brielle Sebey ‘27 has dreamed of studying radiology for the past three years, almost certain it was her future career. Recently, though, that dream has shifted. “Because of AI taking over many parts of radiology, I’ve been looking at other options, scared that if I did go into radiology, eventually a robot would take over my job,” Sebey said. She’s not alone. As BHS, students plan their futures and apply to colleges, many are forced…

Big Thief’s debut album Masterpiece, released on May 27, 2016, through Saddle Creek Records, lives up to its title. Described by Jill Mapes of Pitchfork as a collection that “shifts nimbly between lo-fi acoustic and throwback rock hooks,” the album strikes a balance between rawness and melody, blending nostalgia with heartfelt intimacy. The lyrics sink into emotional themes such as lovesickness, abuse, and mental illness, which offers an avenue to mix the vulnerability of the…

Author’s Note: For any student looking toward pursuing a higher education through college, phrases along the lines of “studying abroad will change your life,” are all too familiar. As someone who wants to study abroad, I try to treat these statements as true, especially after hearing personal stories from students who believe their experiences in studying abroad have changed their perspective. But what about teachers? Do they experience a similar shift in perspective after they’ve…

To begin the Friday morning class period, a BHS teacher greeted their students with a question: “How was registration night?” A mutual groan erupted amongst students. “It was so pointless,” one student shouted out. Nods and grunts of agreement filled the room. For this class, it was unanimous: registration night, which had taken place the night before, was not worth students’ time. While the night wasn’t completely pointless, it also wasn’t worthwhile for all students.…

The idea of getting into a car with a student of her age shocked Femke Mammen 23’, an exchange student from Germany living in Buffalo for the year. She knew teenagers in the US were allowed to drive, but it didn’t really hit her until she actually got in the car with her 16-year-old classmate. Mammen found it weird that 16-year-olds can drive. On the other hand, many American teenagers find it odd that teens…

Imagine that one day, you’re minding your business and notice people staring at you. You check if there’s anything on your shirt or something in your teeth. There isn’t. The staring doesn’t stop, but worsens from silent whispers, laughs, and stink eyes being thrown your way too. There’s nothing wrong with you, but the real reason this is happening is your skin color. That’s a normal day for black women in a Predominantly White Institution…

Mackenzie Koren 25’ is one of many high-achieving students who choose to take vigorous classes and get involved in multiple sports. What students get told all day long, in advisory, and in health class, is that they should easily be able to manage being a student-athlete while also balancing their physical, emotional, and social health. So how do student-athletes at BHS manage to balance all of these things with only 24 hours each day? 6:30…
