  • The Bison Boys’ basketball team fell to the Brainerd Warriors 67-69 in a double overtime battle on Tuesday night.  This was the first Section game  and the winner would go on to play the winner between Moorehead and STMA, and the loser would end its season.   • The Buffalo Boys’ basketball team heads into section play after two Conference wins against Cambridge-Isanti on Thursday and Becker on Friday.  They will end their regular season with a record of 17-9.   • Last weekend, four Buffalo students placed high enough at the wrestling sections match to move on to State. It took place in Hopkins on Friday and Saturday and in order to make it to state, the athletes had to place first or second in their weight class.   • Junior Jackson Elliot swam the 100 butterfly in Elk River on February 25. He took fourth place at Sections with a State-qualifying time of 54.29 seconds. During the preliminary day of Sections, where swimmers have to place in the top 16 to advance, Elliott swam the 500 freestyle and afterwards threw up six times and passed out.   • The Boys’ Swim and Dive team hosted a spaghetti dinner at the St. Francis Xavier Educational Center last Saturday night. Their team is self-funded and this is one of the three big fundraisers they have to do to stay afloat. The spaghetti dinner has been around for three years and this year was the biggest turnout yet.   • The Boys’ Basketball team hosted Minnapolis South for its 12th annual memorial game in honor of Pat Sonju on Saturday.  The varsity team won the game 59-47. Sonju was the former head basketball coach who suddenly died in the fall of 1999.  Usually taking place in late January or early February, Bison basketball celebrate the life of a loved coach by playing the game that he loved: Basketball.   • Jon Holtz announced this week that 2012 will be his last year coaching BHS gymnastics. Holtz has been coaching gymnastics for 17 years.
