Daughters of Africa
Thanks to Cultures United and the Arts Magnet Program, the Mixed Blood theater presented Daughters of Africa in the PAC on Thursday. This play was a monologue of things African American females have been through over the years.
The basis of the play was an airplane ride back in time. While music was played, many stories were told going from a women slave whose son was sold to Harriet Tubman. Some other stories and names that were mentioned were Madam CJ Walker, Ethel Waters, Billy Holiday, Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, Opera and Queen Latifah.
“I loved the play. It was amazing. The different characters were so real and I’m just thankful for all of them. Its like they paved the way for me and if I don’t do anything with my life it’ll be like they did everything for nothing. Also the singing variety was amazing,” said Freshman Valencia Ingram. “The whole thing was informational in a fun way.”
