Winning becomes a tradition for Track team
The temperature has been over 70, and the snow is melted. You can tell it’s Track & Field season.
At Buffalo High School, things are a little different when it comes to Track season. The Boys team is looking for its 9th straight Conference title and seems very confident about getting it.
“We are not as good as we were last year,” commented Senior captain Blake Schmidt. “We lost a centerpiece of the program when Jerome Begin graduated. He was a crazy athlete who could run any event you put him in.”
Even without the strong senior class of last year, the season will still be great. Highlighting the returning class are senior captains Spencer Chenoweth, Eric Selchow, Blake Schmidt, and Andrew Gutknecht. On the girls side there are Senior Captains Angela Eastland, Alexa Thielman, Lexi Sandberg, and Leeza Kennedy.
The Bison have many strong points this year. The distance runners will be lead by Junior Dan Pettit for the boys and Eastland on the girls side. The Sprinters will be lead by Schmidt, and Junior Tyler Olson. The Hurdlers will be lead by Selchow, Gutknecht, and Sandberg and Junior Amanda Letsinger will highlight the girls. Other top performers from last year are Juniors Eddie Clifton and Mitch Valli who both perform in pole-vaulting.
The Bison will be hosting their first home meet of the season on April 17 against Big Lake and Camridge-Isanti.
