Threads of Tradition: Chloe Erickson’s Embroidery and Crafts

How BHS senior Chloe Erickson turned her knowledge of sewing from her grandma into a business

Chloe Erickson ‘26 originally started her small business, Chloe’s Embroidery and Crafts, as a way to make extra money, but since then it has turned into fun bonding time with her Grandma. Erickson sought out her Grandma to be her business partner because she had taught her how to sew and has been a big supporter of the business.

“I asked for an embroidery machine one year for Christmas, and I was expecting a little rinky dink that can just do the outline of shapes and stuff,” said Erickson. “But [my grandma got me] a really fancy embroidery machine.”

Erickson and her Grandma have been able to bond together as they work on the projects that they both love and enjoy making.

“My Grandma and I work on everything together… It was kind of a way to do something with my grandma that we both love doing” said Erickson.

Erickson’s business does custom embroidery on clothing and other fabric materials such as towels, seasonal decor, and any other craft she feels like making, although her favorite is jewelry.

“People will give us any article of clothing and then we’ll put the pattern or whatever they want on it,” said Erickson ‘26.

Most of the time Erickson waits for people to reach out to her, and then once she has a project she will drive out to her grandparents house to go work on it. Once there, both her and her grandma will use their different skill sets to divide the work of the project.

“I would drive to my grandparents house because that’s where the machine is and then my grandma always does the setup and I do the organizing of the design. Then we work together on it and I put everything on a spreadsheet to keep track of expenses and profits.”

After this process she’ll put her work on Instagram. One of her most recent projects was working on a design that said “Fishermen of Men” with a picture of a fish she put onto a hoodie.
