The Podcast Hosts of BHS
Three friends strive to uplift student voices through the Herdcast
Deep in Buffalo, amid cornfields and suburbs, high schoolers mill around from class to class. Each holds their own private thoughts, stories, and opinions. The Herdcast—made by friends Aiklie Gray ‘25, Wyatt Droen ‘25, and Vivian Grambart ‘25—brings student voices to light through their unique, student-centric episodes and topics.
In every episode of the Herdcast, listeners are met by two main voices: hosts Gray and Grambart. Gray was the first to suggest creating the Herdcast.
“We were in journalism, and then McCallum asked us to look at Pacemaker Winners. [These awards] and the Hoofprint are where I just got my inspiration from,” Gray said.
Gray and Grambart are the voices at the mic, but there’s more than what meets the ears behind the Herdcast itself. Droen is the lead and only editor for the Herdcast trio. Droen’s reliability and unique position have made him an irreplaceable part of the team. He’s fully embraced his role as an editor.
“I enjoy the responsibility of having to edit an episode and making sure that they get out weekly,” Droen said. “I think most of my motivation was having a reason to like learn the software, like using applications like Audacity more and having practice in, you know, working with audio software and editing.”
Working with Gray and Grambart has been a highlight of the experience.
“I think they’re great, I think they do well in their roles,” Droen said. “They do a great job at doing all the talking and trying to keep people engaged in all the episodes.”
With six episodes down and another on the way, it’s clear that the Herdcast and its team have bright futures ahead. Stay tuned, and stop in every time a new episode drops. The podcast can be found on Spotify, where episodes are posted weekly.
