The Class Behind the Class Photo

Tatanka Yearbook staff works behind the scenes to ensure a stunning Class of 2025 photo

Taking a senior class photo may seem simple right? Just stand in the shape of a number on the football field and then you have your photo. However, the yearbook class that does the work of setting up for the photo has a different perspective on the Class of 2025 photo.

On September 30, the senior class of 2025 went out to Bison Field West to take their class photo. What most BHS seniors don’t know is that the Tatanka Yearbook was out to the field during Second Hour setting up. They used ropes to mark the numbers and aligned the top of the numbers with the bison logo in the middle of the field. The camera angle was going to be up high, which means that they needed to adjust the angles and the size of the numbers to make it fit perfectly straight from the angle they were taking the photo.

“It looks like a bunch of people just went magically in the shape of a 25 but in reality, a lot more work goes into it,” Emerson Breyer ‘25 said. “[Most seniors] don’t get to see the behind-the-scenes work to stop people from standing wherever.”

The yearbook staff had students in the press box to help them when they were setting up, making sure that everything looked how it was supposed to.

“Three or four students were up in the press box,” Breyer said. “Pointing us where to go, what needs to be changed, what lines need to be made thicker, what needs to be more rounded, things like that.”

When it came down to taking the photo, they had the juniors in the yearbook class who were not going to be in the photo, take the ropes out so then the outline could not be seen.

In a matter of days, the photo will be hanging in the hallways and become a part of the history of the class of 2025 as it becomes a centerpiece in the 2025 yearbook.
