On Friday February 27 and Saturday February 28 the Boys swim and dive team headed to Alexandria for Sections. They are in class 8AA and this section is extremely competitive.
The Meet started on Friday at 4:00 P.M. The boys swam their best events and the top 16 in each event would advance to Section Finals, which would take place the following day. The boys put up some fast times and more boys than ever advanced to the Section Finals.
They headed back to the hotel that night tired and sore, and it was not too hard to get right to sleep. They awoke the next morning and began shaving heads, legs, arms, and any other necessary body parts. More hair equals more drag and a slower time. Many of the swimmers shaved down and they headed into the pool looking very intimidating.
The Section Final meet began at 3:00 P.M. Earlier in the day diving was held and the top 16 in diving would advance to a 3 dive round during the Final meet. Almost all the Buffalo divers advanced to the Finals. The meet began at three and before long the first half was already over. The boys swam very fast and had a lot of season bests. The Bison headed into diving fifth out of eight teams.
The Bison divers had some great dives and ended up in fifth, seventh, and eighth. Tanner Baumen who took fifth place missed going to state by only a few points. After a bit of disappointment Tanner shook it off and swam great in the second half of the meet.
Senior Nathan Enegefer swam an amazing race in the 100 butterfly and earned himself a trip to the state meet. He tied for second and the top two automatically advance to the state meet. Nathan has been working hard all year leading up to this meet.
Freshman J.D. O’Donnell also got second in his event and obtained a trip to the state meet. He swam the 500 freestyle and got a season best. He also worked hard all year in preparation for this meet. J.D. will be a serious threat in years to come.
Overall the Bison placed fifth out of eight teams and had their best season ever. This is their first time to send anyone to the State meet. “ I am so proud of all the boys, they have worked so hard all season and it has really paid off, they have earned this fifth place finish,” says coach Ryan Rehnstrand. In years past the Bison had to fight for last place, but this year they show the Section to look out. With the potential cut of the team the boys sure did go out with a bang,
