Students Learn about Leadership at Bison Breakfast
Every Wednesday, right before school starts at 7am, athletes and students huddle in the Bison Room to attend the Bison breakfast that Acivities Director Tom Bauman hosts.
Bison Breakfast is a meeting in the Bison Room every Wednesday to improve aditiudes of the athletes and most importantly the students.
“I decided to do Bison Breakfast because I was feeling kind of disconnected from the kids.” Bauman said. ” I don’t get to coach or teach so I wanted to connect with the kids and be a good example for them. The Impact Retreat only happens once a year and we used to do Bison Breakfast once a month which I thought just wasn”t enough. I wanted the students to keep a healty mind so now it’s once a week.”
The whole aspect of Bison Breakfast is to teach kids how to be better leaders at their school. Every week there is a different theme to go along with what is learned. Even kids that may not go to the school come and attend the meetings.
” It’s really cool to see all the mix of different sports people come from,” said Junior Jenna Muntifering. ” And all the leaders people want to be. I want to be a better leader and consider myself a better leader. I think Mr. Bauman had such a great idea with the meetings it really helps me with leadership skills and how to apply them to not just sports.”
Each Wednesday there is a different speaker to interact with the kids and tell a different story.
“With Bison Breakfast I can carry what I learned in the meeting and put it on the field,” said Senior Erika Doimer. ” I like that whoever is speaking can realte to every leader or athlete and what they are going through. It’s a good way to learn how to deal with certain situations that you are put through as a leader in our school.”
As more and more people continue to learn about leadership skills, Bauman hopes that they remember one thing from the meetings.
“If you hear one thing and go hey I remember that then it’s good,” Bauman said.” It’s not a test, it’s just a talk and if you just happen to remember something from the meeting then it just goes well. It’s happy to see people applying the things they learned from just a simple talk.”
