Student Council Works For Months to Bring “Home Sweet Homecoming” to Life

Preparation for the Candy-themed Homecoming Week Began in August

Home Sweet Homecoming wraps up when the dance ends at 10 p.m. on Saturday. For Student Council, this represents the culmination of multiple months of preparation and hours of extra work behind the scenes.

The planning began this summer when Student Council seniors gathered for their annual theme meeting. During that session, co-presidents Lauren Berg ‘26 and Evie Lubben ‘26 introduced the “Home Sweet Homecoming” concept that’s now coming to life.

“We came into the meeting with the idea of Home Sweet Homecoming because Evie’s older sister’s husband was wearing a Home Sweet Homecoming shirt from when they were seniors,” Berg said. “She got off the idea from that and I agreed that’s a great idea and everyone was on board with it.

“It’s also nice because it was a homecoming theme at Buffalo, but nobody here remembers it, unless they have older siblings,” Keeley Anonen ‘26 said. “It’s a reused idea, but it’s so new to all of us here at Buffalo High School.”

Last week, Student Council held a work night to create the poster now hanging in the atrium. The busy week will continue with setup for Friday night’s Fun Night, followed by dance preparations on Saturday morning. Fortunately, Student Council members can actually enjoy the dance since advisers Karrie Alberts and Judy Eimrick handle the ticket booth, though they do spend time beforehand recruiting chaperones.

It’s a stressful week for Student Council. Come see their hard work at fun night on Friday night, and at the dance on Saturday night.
