Spring Sports Begin Despite Snow
Minnesota winters are always unpredictable, but this year we have been plagued with an even more harsh winter. With cold temperatures, mounds of snow, and high winds, spring seems pretty far off. Even with the current conditions, spring sports began this week. Sun and green grass is what is expected with sports such as golf and softball; right now, the ground is still frozen and snow covered. Last year, Buffalo got snow in May; students who participate in spring sports are hoping they don’t have the same luck this year. With snow still covering the golf courses, fields, and courts, coaches have to improvise their plans to accommodate the limited gym space.
“The key is flexibility,” said Social Studies Teacher and Baseball Coach Christopher Gmach. “One day it can be 50 degrees and sunny, and the next it can be 10 degrees and snowing.”
With Minnesota having drastic fluctuations in temperature and weather, spring sport coaches have learned they can’t plan to far ahead.
“We just have to plan day to day,” said Gmach, “We will make due with whatever we get.”
