Oppurtunities for sophomores are available at BHS which not many people have known about until now, a two-year CPR certification program is being offered to students who have taken, or are taking, health this school year. This program has been offered to BHS students since the 2012-2013 school year. Just this year, 120 students have been certified in CPR/AED by Nancy Halagan, RN, LSN, who is a CPR instructor with the American Heart Association. The students who go through the program will be trained on how to save a life using CPR.
“Students participating in this training learn the effective steps to save a life and also learn valuable skills that could lead to a profession in the healthcare industry in future.” said BHM District Nurse Karen Schultz. “In addition to the training done with our 10th grade students, our students attending the Phoenix School were trained in Hands Only CPR and AED. Our BHS and BCMS Staff were also trained – with a total of 250 staff learning these life saving skills.”
“This is a great opportunity for our students to have important life saving skills,” said Schultz. “and can lead to future career interests.”
