As hundreds of students at BHS know, Facebook can be very addicting. As I write this, I have a Facebook tab open and I find myself checking it periodically. And when I realize that three hours have gone by I think to myself, “what the heck was I even looking at?”
I find myself looking through new pictures posted, the news feed, reading articles, listening to music, playing a game, creeping through my crushes profile, the list goes on and on. And I’m sure I’m not the only one who does this.
But what about those who don’t have a Facebook? I know only a very small handful of students here that don’t.
“I’m too busy to have one and I also think that it’s pointless. We have phones, and other ways to communicate. And this is just another popularity contest anyway,“ said Junior Maggie Walstrom.
It’s true, there are other ways of communicating but if kids aren’t on Facebook then they’re texting and really what’s the difference? If society is concerned that there isn’t enough face to face communication and texting is the cause, then so is Facebook.
“I just don’t feel the need to put my personal life on the internet. At times it seems like people are obsessed with Facebook because it’s the “cool thing to do,” said Junior Mark Bjork. “Facebook just doesn’t really interest me.”
