One Down, Two To Go
The Buffalo hockey girls defeated the St.Cloud Breakers 5-0 on home ice, advancing to the second round of sections.
The fans roared as the Buffalo Girls Hockey team stepped out onto the ice. Having fans cheering them on got the girls pumped and ready for the game. Within a min of starting the game, Jillian Hovland scored, assisted by Abby Halluska. The energy from the goal, the girls out worked St.Cloud and made it extremely hard for St.Cloud to get out of their zone. With energy in their veins, the girls worked together, cycled the puck down low, and tape to tape passing was spot on. One minor problem that buffalo had troubles was getting the puck in the net and just barely missing those back-door shots. At the end of the period the score was 1 (Buffalo) -0 (St.Cloud), shots on net were 15 (Buffalo)-3 (St.Cloud).
The start of the second period Buffalo came out flying. Determination in their eyes, Buffalo flew past St.Cloud. As Buffalo gets into the St.Cloud zone, they slow the play down. Working the puck down low and giving themselves opportunities to shoot on net. With all the shots on net, one shot bounced off the goalies pad right to St.Cloud, giving them control of the puck and breaking it out of their zone. Facing off in Buffalo’s zone, the Defense passed it up to Taylor Thompson for her to skate it down on a 2 on 1. Pushing passed the defense Thompson shot and scored, top shelf. Facing off in the center of the ice, Buffalo brought back into St.Cloud’s zone. Dominating in the St.Cloud zone Allison Reothke passed to Ali klein and shot from inside the blue line and went in. Making Buffalo leading St.Cloud 3-0, with shots on net 32-9. With a min left in the game Abby Halluska gets a penalty for elbowing.
As the start of the third period Buffalo started off with a minute left in Abby Halluska penalty. Once Buffalo got back to full strength, the girls struggled getting tape to tape passes and lost the spark Buffalo had in the first and second period. As the game processed, the girls got their groove back. It shows by scoring their fourth goal of the game by Kirsten Olson, assisted by Taylor Thompson and Sydney Driver. Out shooting St.Cloud 53-13, Taylor Thompson scoring her second goal of the game with five minutes left, assisted by Payton Rudiger. St.Clouds took a time up with 3:55 left in the game, giving them little more time to figure out what to do. By the end of the game Buffalo Dominating St.Cloud 5-0.
