Here’s why you can’t use vending machines during school hours
Students want the vending machines on, but the Smart Snacks Law is holding them back
Students wonder why more than half of the vending machines in school aren’t on during school hours. The only vending machines on during school are the ones by the BAC and ones that sell water.
The reason is that all competitive foods in schools must meet the national school nutrition standards that include limits on fats, sugar, sodium, and calories. This rule was implemented during the 2014-2015 school year.
Some students suggest that we allow all vending machines to be operational during school hours.
