Girls Cross Country Continues Success With a Second Place Finish at New Prague

Cady Macheel led the Bison with a 7th Place finish despite a setback early on

The Buffalo Girls Cross Country team continued their historic season with a strong showing on September 24 in New Prague. The team came in second place with their fastest runner coming in seventh.

The team’s five fastest runners took care of business in the New Prague meet. Cady Macheel ‘28 took seventh place overall, even after losing her shoe in the first half of the race and she managed to close it out with an outstanding finish on one shoe. Gabriella Broadhead ’29, Miley Farniok ’25, Kelcie Bode ’27, and Rose Lamberts ’26 were standout runners for the Bison at the meet.

“We are hopeful for the season and we expect to go farther,” Lamberts ‘26. “This is the first time in years where we actually have hope in going far.”

The team has sent individual runners to the State Meet in the past, but this year, the whole team is in the running to represent Buffalo at State. With two new varsity runners and returning veteran runners making improvements.

Their next meet is on October 2 in St. Michael. Lambert said that they hope to keep this historic run going as they aim to get a top 5 finish.

If the team qualifies through their performance at Sections, the State Tournament will be held on November 3.
