Football falls in 2025 opener
The Bison came up one point short in an electric game for Grant Benson
The Buffalo Bison opened their season on Friday night with a 28-27 loss to the Brainerd Warriors. The Bison moved down a conference, so the Warriors are the first of a new group of teams the Bison will face this year.
During the first quarter, the Bison’s defense kept the score 0-0. The second quarter followed with Brainerd getting a touchdown and a two-point conversion, but the Bison did not let this stop them. Quarterback Grant Benson ‘26 passed to Wide Receiver Hendrix Gatz ‘26, putting the Bison in the red zone. With four minutes left in the half, Wide Receiver Thomas Jordan ‘27 scored a touchdown, and Tight End Hans Pederson ‘26 scored a two-point conversion, tying the score at 8-8 heading into halftime.
During the third quarter, Wide Receiver Mathew Jordan ‘27 caught a pass from Quarterback Benson, followed by Benson getting the touchdown, giving the Bison their first lead. Minutes later, Benson ‘26 ran half the field, leaving the Warriors in the dust on the way to a 21-15 lead at the end of the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Benson scored his third touchdown of the game. With one minute left in the game, Gatz and Benson connected for a 72-yard reception, putting the Bison at the eight-yard line. However, the Bison couldn’t bring home the win, falling to the Warriors 27-28.
