Are students using AI for the right reasons?

AI can be a great learning tool for students. It can provide quick and easy information, give you tools to study for tests and quizzes, and it can even help you summarize information that’s hard to understand in school. But recently, one in five students in America have admitted that they have been using AI to cheat in their assignments, and 25% of people are in a “gray area” meaning they don’t consider it wrong or right. One in five people is around 20% which doesn’t seem like a lot, but remember, these are the people who have admitted they have cheated.
Even programs like Google Docs and PowerPoint have put in place AI detector systems for teachers to see if students are using AI in their assignments. The fact that these are needed shows the growing problem of AI use in schools. It’s not bad to use AI for things like studying, checking your work, or even asking questions for problems to assist your learning, but the students who use it just to make a whole assignment that they should have done on their own shows a lack of knowledge and laziness.
One way to tell if someone has used AI is to see if their writing is near perfection, almost another level the student hasn’t reached in their studies, how fast they finished their assignment, and how well they understand the material based on their participation in class. Are they doing their part of the work in assigned groups? Are they contributing in class and/or individually? Are they confident in understanding class materials without any electronics?
