Boys’ Hockey hits a bump in the road
The Varsity Boys’ Hockey team travelled to Rogers on Thursday to face off against the Royals for the second time this season looking to get redemption after a 5-1 loss earlier in the season.
The Bison were able to play a solid First Period, with goals coming from Junior Cale Ehresmann and Senior Jack Becker, but conceded 2 goals as well. In the Second, the Bison were handed 12 minutes of penalties in which lead to a 5-3 man advantage for Rogers.
The score going into the Third Period was still 2-2, thanks to Senior Goalkeeper Blake Schmidt. Schmidt posted 22 saves off of 22 shots in the Second Period to keep his team going and receive some momentum.
Both teams gave each other a fair amount of pressure throughout the period but eventually the Bison began to tire and lose some intensity. The Royals broke through with a goal with 9 minutes left in the game. It was all downhill from there as the game ended 5-2 in favor of Rogers.
“The 12 straight minutes of penalty kill in the 2nd took all our energy and didn’t leave any for the third,” said Schmidt after the game.
Junior Aaron Rouse also gave his perspective after the game.
“It’s a tough loss, ya know? We just didn’t capitalize on our scoring chances.”
The Bison went to Wayzata on Saturday. They struck first with a goal from Becker in the first. The Trojans came back with a goal of their own in the Second Period to set up the score to be 1-1 going into the third. The Trojans were just too much for the Bison finishing the game with three goals to bring it to a 4-1 loss for the Bison.
