Bison Football Wins Thrilling Game Against Lumberjacks
Grant Benson '26 runs for two touchdowns in the Bison win
The Buffalo Bison defeated the Bemidji Lumberjacks 31-30 in a thrilling showdown at Bison Field West. It was the Bison’s third game of the season, entering with a record of 1-1. Tonight, the Student body was dressed in Red, White, and Blue to honor military heroes in the US.
Bemidji struck first with a field goal to close the opening quarter ahead 3–0. Early in the second, wide receiver Jackson Coss ’26 moved the chains with a key reception, setting up Buffalo’s offense. Wideout Matthew Jordan ’27 followed with another clutch grab, pushing Buffalo into scoring position. Quarterback Grant Benson ’26 capped the drive with a rushing touchdown, and kicker Jacob Hahessy ’26 added a field goal later in the quarter to send the teams into halftime tied 10–10.
The Bison rode the momentum after the break. Wide receiver Thomas Jordan ’28 hauled in a touchdown catch less than four minutes into the third quarter, igniting the home crowd. Soon after, Benson connected with Hendrix Gatz ’26 on a deep strike, giving Buffalo another score.
Bemidji responded to retake the lead late, but Benson engineered a decisive drive in the final minutes. With just over a minute left, the Junior quarterback powered across the goal line for his second rushing touchdown of the night, pulling Buffalo even once more. Hahessy’s extra point sealed the 31–30 victory.
