Many Buffalo High School students dressed in blue shirts and “Sky High” bracelets last Tuesday to remember Jon Kramnic who was in a head-on collision with a drunk driver on his way to a friend’s house on November 22, 2009.
“It’s a great way to remember him,” said Junior Nikki Bonin. “And it’s really cool to see the freshman and sophomores dressed in blue in honor of him when they didn’t even get to know him.”
Kramnic was the star varsity soccer player, was involved in the school newspaper, and was just a very well liked student, known for his great sense of humor.
Kramnic had just dropped off his girlfriend and was on his way to a friend’s house in St. Micheal. Todd Lifto was speeding with his headlights off and three times the legal blood alcohol level, Lifto swerved into the wrong lane and smashed into Kramnic’s car head-on with his pickup truck. Lifto was charged with criminal vehicular homicide and was sentenced to five years in prison on $500,000 bail.
Outraged about the accident, many students and loved ones of Kramnic have been fighting against drunk driving and pledged never to drive while drunk. In the two years since the accident many people wear the blue “Sky High” bracelets to show that they won’t forget about Jonathan Kramnic.
