The concert featured 241 BHS students performing a total of 14 songs playing a variety of different instruments ranging from the flute to the bass. During O Magnum Mysterium, the members of the Concert Band made director Scott Rabehl cry.
“The piece is a really sad and moving song. It was the best performance we’ve ever given and the music was so powerful that it moved Rabehl to tears,” said Maya Bolduan
Something new to the Winter Band concert this year was the feature of the BHS concert choir in one of the songs played by the Concert Band, Battle Hymm of the Republic.
“It’s good for us musically to perform with another group and try to mesh with them. It’s fun to have both Rabehl and Walsh be directing at the same time because we don’t get to see that very often,” said Senior Amanda Doebler.
The purpose was to prepare the Concert Band and Concert Choir for the Minnesota Music Educators Association (MMEA) conference taking place next Thursday at the Minneapolis Convention Center Ballroom.
“This concert was good preparation for MMEA because all the songs we performed are ones we will be performing next Thursday,” said Senior Brittany Downs.
