Battle of the Sexes, AAA Competition
Wild Wild West dress up day was a big success, including the AAA competition, where two students of opposite genders from each grade battled it out, in Battle of the Sexes. First up were the Freshman, doing the limbo. Mixing spoons Emily Greeley and Will Floershiem held the limbo stick as Chandler Engle was the first to walk under it, he made it. Now it was up to Tyler Whissler to keep the girls in the game. The game ended in the fourth round when Engle couldn’t quite get low enough to make it under. That was one point for the girls.
Next up were sophomores Brianna Mass and Lucas Mock, but it was brains they needed to win this trivia event. Questions like, “In high school, what was Mr. Mischke’smascot? a. Raitor b. Bison c. Knight d. Magic” Mass and Mock raced to grab a ball that would determine who got to answer first. After Mass said Bison, which was the wrong answer, Mock guessed Knight for the win.
We were then half way through the competition and the score was one to one. Now juniors Nick Weeks and Sarah Frost were up, each trying to win over the point for their gender. This event was a race to see who could drink a mixture of blended cocktail sauce, pineapple juice, pickles, and celery. As soon as announcer Madelyn Nones finished the count down, the race was on. Within ten seconds Frost had her drink down and now the girls were in the lead.
The contestants in the final event were Homecoming King and Queen runner ups Brent Kettenacker and Ashley Michalko. Their event started at one end of the gym, they had to run down and put on different sports equipment and the first one back won. Michalko was in the lead until Kettenacker caught up and stole the point, causing a tie between the two genders.
King Billy Ogdahl and Queen Francie Varner were then called to the floor to resolve the tie breaker by a hoola hoop contest. They both started strong but for Ogdahl it soon turned into a dance off, therefore, Varner scored the point for the girls team to win.
As Homecoming week comes to an end, excitement rises for the football game hosting Monticello, Friday night at 7:00 pm. Remember that this is our opportunity to support and show school spirit, so have fun and be safe.
