Letters of Love: New BHS Chapter of Nationwide Non-Profit

How this organization made a successful debut at BHS

Letters of Love is a global organization founded in 2018 at Osseo High School. Its mission is to send support to children battling illness in hospitals across the nation through handmade cards. The multiple chapters of Letters of Love in high schools nationwide create cards that spread joy and smiles and support the organization’s goal.

Evalynn Mehr ‘26 was inspired to start a chapter of this inspiring non-profit at her own High School. She had heard about surrounding schools that had set this up and decided that it was something she wanted to do as well.

“[Starting Letters of Love at BHS] was so simple, but it was so moving,” Mehr said. “I looked more into it, and I found out that Letters of Love is more of an umbrella organization; so it’s one big foundation, and then they have separate clubs through each school.”

After working out details with administration, getting a supervisor, and deciding when and where to hold it, the first meeting was held on November 12.

“We decided [to hold the meeting] during base,” Mehr said. “Ms. Jackson was very nice and donated a bunch of art supplies for us, so we did it in her room.”

The meeting was considered a success, with about 20 attendees, but many more students have shown interest in future meetings.

“I loved that I had creative freedom,” Ireland Morris ‘27, who attended the first meeting, said. “I could draw whatever I wanted and I got to talk to my friends.”

“[The club] is really fun, and a simple way to engage with your community and to get to know other people, because all sorts of grades can do it,” Morris said.” [Letters of Love] can also help with your creative side.”

Information on upcoming Letters of Love meetings can be found on their Instagram page, @lettersoflove_buffalo. Anyone is welcome to attend and help the club’s mission!
