Teens abusing adderall and other prescription drugs?

Many BHS teens are prescribed Adderall, or Ritalin to help with lack of attention and to help them pay better attention during class. “Ritalin (methylphenidate) is a central nervous system stimulant. It affects chemicals in the brain and nerves that contribute to hyperactivity and impulse control. Ritalin is used to treat attention deficit disorder (ADD) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Adderall (Amphetamine and dextroamphetamine) are central nervous system stimulants that affect chemicals in the brain and nerves that contribute to hyperactivity and impulse control. Amphetamine and dextroamphetamine may be habit forming. Never share this medicine with another person, especially someone with a history of drug abuse or addiction.” (Information from http://www.drugs.com/adderall.html)

Although advised by the prescribing doctor not to share or sell these drugs, many student do so anyway. This warning by doctors is not only precautionary, it is to keep young adult out of legal trouble. Selling these drugs to people who do not need them is illegal, and could harm the person using without prescription.

If you are selling or sharing these drugs with friends or peers, you might want to reconsider your actions and evaluate the risks involved. Remember this could harm more people than just yourself, and could end up getting you in legal trouble.
