Senioritis– from the prefix senior plus the suffix –itis is a colloquial term used in the United States to describe the
decreased motivation toward studies displayed by students who are nearing the end of their High School career.
The epidemic of Senioritis is running rapid through high schools throughout the country with the end of the school year approaching, and numerous cases are found here at Buffalo High School.
“I’ve had all my credits done since first quarter this year,” said Senior Colm Macnab. “So I’m starting to feel the de-motivation of Senioritis. Even though I’m technically done, I’m still trying hard to do my best in classes.”
One of the contributors to Senioritis is the repetition of routines of High School’s entirety. For most seniors a future of independence that’s right around the corner after graduation is intriguing.
“The fact that I won’t be doing the same thing every day with the same classes at the same time is what I’m looking forward to next year,” said Senior Katie Oden.
Despite the excitement graduation entails, students still have respect for BHS and their journey over the past four years.
“I have Senioritis because I have all my credits done and I’m already accepted into college,” said Senior Hunter Stenberg. “But I don’t want to leave yet because I love it here.”
It has been proven that Senioritis tends to make students quit in the middle of schoolwo
