Pep Band Battle

There is one battle that you don’t usually notice when watching the big game.  They’re always there, playing loud and proud, but never cheered for.  Fighting a battle just as important as the game itself.  The battle of the pep bands.

The pep band provides much needed momentum to the crowd and to the players during games, playing songs such as “The Final Countdown,” “Smoke on the Water,” and our school song.  And this year they had a rare opportunity-to play against another band at a state level competition.

I talked to Freshman Matt Fenton, who played the tenor sax during Wednesday’s game.  “It was a wonderful experience even though we lost the game.” he said.    And even after losing to Lakeside North, it’s hard to claim that they beat us in spirit.  We had one of the biggest pep bands we’ve ever had at a game, and a massive student presence- especially compared to Lakeside’s band and student presence.  I think we can claim we won a moral victory however corny and cliche that may sound.

It’s a rare occurrence, having a team go to state, but when we  do, you can always count on the pep band to make it a more fun and exciting experience.
