More than 230 awards given out last Thursday at Music Ceremony

This past Thursday, there were 30 new students inducted into the Tri-M (Modern Music Masters) Music Honor Society. These 30 students will be joining the current 60 members already involved in Tri-M.

Tri-M is an organization for students in school that are actively invovled in music and wish to continue growing their musical knowledge and service throughout high school. Like NHS (National Honor Society), there are a few things that students seeking membership must do in order to join. One thing that students must do to join is participate in Solo & Emsemble. Also like NHS, Tri-M organizes events held during the school year, including the Variety Show which is usually held in February.

The Executive Committee which consists of President Margaret Polzine, vice-President Amelia Haggen, Treasurer J.D. Laskey, Secretary Kassandra Williams, and Historian Kaelie Lund presented the Tri-M keys and certificates to the new and current Tri-M members.

In addition to the Tri-M induction there was also an awards ceremony for those that performed in the Solo & Ensemble competition last month. Awards to students that received a Good rating or better were presented by Michael Knutson, Scott Rabehl, Michael Walsh, and Jill Starr. On a scale of Fair to Superior, 147 students received a Good rating or better and many of these students performed more than one music piece. And of these 147 students more than 75% of them received a Superior. And 16 of these students (4 solos, 3 duets, and one ensemble) received the title “Best in Site.” At the competiton, there are multiple judges each in a different site. After all the performances have been completed each judge must choose one soloist or emsemble that performed better than everyone else. Several of those students that received this award performed one last time during the induction ceremony. Awards and thanks were also given to student and adult accompanists.

Congratulations to all Tri-M inductees and Solo & Ensemble award winners.
