Homecoming Review: Freshman vs. Senior
How the 2024 Homecoming Dance felt for seniors and freshmen
Now that Homecoming Week has passed, students have returned to the normal school routine. The long-awaited Homecoming Dance concluded Homecoming festivities, however, some seniors say that the experience did not live up to the dances of the past.
The most common reason cited by these seniors was the behavior of the students on the dance floor.
“There were a lot of people shoving and pushing, and it was not fun to be on the dance floor because everyone was not nice, and they were being rude,” Isabel Ferguson ‘25 said.
This homecoming let Ferguson down in comparison to the other years that she has attended.
“I usually enjoy Homecoming a lot because I like to dance, but this year was not fun because I couldn’t dance, since I was being shoved,” Ferguson said. “I don’t think it was anything against the people that helped put it together. I think it was the people there, and they should have been controlled by their bad behaviors,” Ferguson said.
Kaitlyn Violett ‘25 agreed that this homecoming was extra crowded this year, but had a more enjoyable experience than Ferguson.
“[This year’s Homecoming Dance] was probably the most fun one I’ve been to,” Violett said. “I thought the music was better at this one, but it was a lot more crowded at the actual dance.”
Maddie Kuzma ‘28 is one of the many freshmen who experienced their first Homecoming week. She did not anticipate the amount of fun she had at the dance.
“I expected homecoming to be really crazy and really loud,” Kuzma said. “I thought it would be too much for me and that I wouldn’t have as much fun as I did. [The dance] was fun. I was hanging out with my friends and just dancing.”
With freshmen having their entire high school experience ahead of them, and seniors beginning the year that will end it, their opinions are bound to differ. However, most students agree that Homecoming, although a key part of the high school experience, could be improved with a bit less shoving and a bit more personal space.
