Hoofprint.net is not only a National Scholastic Pacemaker, but a class of Journalism 2 students who work to cover news and feature stores for students and staff at Buffalo High School. The class publishes at least 15 stories a week by working daily to cover sports, feature stories, and events happening around the school and everyday life that relate to students.
“Well first you need a story idea and the story needs to be written,” said Senior Nick Weeks. “You have to get some good quotes and interviews and all that jazzy stuff. Then you have to have a visual appeal to make sure people will click on it. I really like Hoofprint.net.”
There is more to publishing a story than simply typing up information, quotes, and ideas. There needs to be critical thinking and expertise in the area in order for the story to be good. The class starts off with a discussion of different story ideas and what should be covered throughout the week.
“We think of brand new things everyday,” said Journalism 2 teacher Ryan McCallum. “The class thinks about things that are brand new to me and I love it. When things are going well, everything works well.”
Even though the class works everyday to publish stories, they also find time to develop relationships and have fun together.
“The class is just a mix of a bunch of crazy personalities– even lunch is fun,” said McCallum.
