Are Google Slideshows Taking Over Christmas?
The new way to present Christmas wishlists holds differing importance
Every year immediately after Halloween, Christmas starts to take over the topic of conversations. The month before Christmas is many BHS students’ favorite time of the year. It’s the time of the year when kids begin crafting their Christmas Wishlists for their parents or friends. Making Google Slideshows has become a popular way to showcase Christmas lists over the past couple of years. It is a way to present your list to your parents and show them what you want, but this time creatively and aesthetically.
Some people think making Google Slides is stupid or unnecessary. Of these critics, the gender tends to trend majority male. Those not in favor believe that making them is a waste of time and pointless. They express how making a typical list saves time but serves the same purpose.
“I think girls making Google Slides is over the top,” Nolan Woidyla ‘26 said. “I never understood why they take all the time to make it look cute and all that. They could just make a simple list like most do.”
“Google slides are pointless,” Camren Knese ‘26 said. “I agree with Nolan on how they take up too much time for a simple Christmas list.”
In the past few holiday seasons, students have taken time out of their day to make these slides even during the school day. BHS girls express how they spend months making these to make sure they have everything that they want and look the best they can.
“I did a Google Slideshow last year and I loved it,” Savana Sabraski ‘27 said. “ I found it very helpful to show my parents what I wanted. It’s crazy how guys don’t put in as much effort especially when it’s so helpful!”
From many girls’ points of view, making the annual Google Slideshow Christmas list is a highlight of the year. The parents of those who make the sides often state that they help ease the stress of Christmas shopping when what their daughters want is directly stated, easily accessible, and fun to look at.
