“You, my friend, look absolutely amazing today.”
Starting last Thursday, ego-boosting notes such as this one have been mysteriously appearing in the girls bathrooms of BHS. Taped to the mirrors above the sink on notebook paper written in blue glitter-pen and construction paper written in pink marker, these phrases of encouragement have been displayed by an anonymous writer.
“It immediately made me smile,” said Junior Stephanie Hansmann. “There was no way you could look at your reflection and not see the note. It gave me a feeling of reassurance and confidence.”
On Friday, the same type of notes started to appear in the boys bathrooms as well; they have all been written by the same, yet-to-be-determined writer, as the hand writing and consistent “smiley faces” show the same penmanship.
“I was sort of creeped out at first by the note I found in the bathroom,” said Senior Nicholas Weeks. “But then I thought about it and it actually made my day in a way. When people say things like that to others, it makes people feel better about themselves and appreciated.”
The buzz about this reoccurring event has left most students talking and wanting to know who the “author” is, but others think differently.
“I think it’s good that the writer remains anonymous because it’s something that is involving the whole school, versus specifically that person and her group of friends,” said Hansmann. “It isn’t something this person had to think about very hard. All she had to do was write a little note. It makes the concept not about them, but about the difference they are making.”
