After Kaelie Lund’s parents told her her grandfather had Leukemia, she updated her status on Facebook.
“Like this status if you’d donate $1 to the Leukemia & Lymphoma society if i shaved my head this week. If i get 100 likes, I’ll do it.. so get click-happy, people. And get ready to hand me those crisp dollar bills in the hallway this week (:.”
Lund decided to step up and make a difference by challenging her friends to donate money to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. If she got 100 likes, she would shave her head.
“A few summers ago I shaved my head and it was so freeing,” said Lund, “I remember thinking I want to do this again. So during work on Sunday I started to think, why not make this be a cause?”
Lund went through with her idea that following Monday night and went to school the next day thinking she had the shortest hair in the school.
“People were coming up and giving me hugs and money when I came to school. I was in shock by the generosity around me.” said Lund, “It’s so humbling to see people care so much about something so personal to me and others.”
Lund’s goal was to raise $100 by the end of the week. With the help of all her peers, she raised well-over the amount she was hoping for. As of Friday afternoon she raised a total of $352.62.
“I cant believe all of this,” said Lund. “I have to take a step back and look around me, and just know that I have all these amazing people around me that I can turn to.”
