Each year the Minnesota School Counselors Association, which is divided into divisions based on aream presents one counselor within each division with a Counselor of the Year award. This year it was our very own Student Counselor Gloria Rose. The Minnesota School Counselors Association mission statement: “The vision of the Minnesota School Counselors Association is to actively promote excellence in the profession of school counseling by providing the leadership, advocacy, support, and resources needed to instill student success in school, home, and the global community.”

“It was a humbling experience,” said Rose, “because I know there are so many people that are deserving of such recognition for the contribution to their school.”

Through all 24 years Rose has worked alongside several different staff members. In her final year of counseling at BHS she has a group that clearly supports her.

“We had a gathering last night to recognize certain administrators and the award,” said Rose. “What was most tremendous for me was having all the counselors I work with, our secretary, and a close colleague of mine attend with me. We all work as a team.”

Counselors are nominated through students, staff, and principals, each of which which writes a letter of recommendation. The final decision of who wins the award is up to the organizations leadership but is based on theo

“I’m very grateful for all the support I have gotten,” said Rose, “from both students and staff. I have a had a very rewarding career.”
