A declared Peaceful State of Emergency

Governor Tim Walz keeps Minnesota schools open in address about COVID-19

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz went live today at 1 p.m. to address the state of Minnesota about what will happen for schools and what precautions should be made to keep you and others safe from COVID-19.

Tim Walz has declared a peaceful state of emergency. This means that if needed he is able to call on the National Guard to help with things out of local grasp. He phrased it as “taking the toolbox out but not yet grabbing the tools.”

Commissioner of the Minnesota Health Department Jan Malcolm addressed the state with Walz. She said that the department of health has made the decision that K-12 schools not be shut down statewide, but districts can make the decision based on infection in their areas.

“Evidence shows that children and teens have the lowest chance of infection of the COVID-19 virus,” said Malcolm.

The department of health stresses that everyone limit time being in range of six feet of other people for a period of time, wash their hands for 20 seconds, and most importantly stay home if they are sick.

“Trying to tough it out and go to work might be the thing that kills your neighbor with a pre-existing respiratory condition,” said Walz.
