Is The Magic of Second Semester Gone?

When all the hard work from first semester is finally done, and over with. The start of second semester is here, new classes and new people eagerly waiting in their seats for the teacher to walk in. Thinking to themselves is this class going to be hard? Easy? Questions popping in their minds wondering if this class is going to be right for them. Once the day starts they find a routine that works for them, and they use it for the rest of the quarter.

“Second semester is harder than the previous semester, it’s very challenging,” said Sophomore Ally Pachan.

Pachan does indoor soccer after school on Tuesdays, Thursdays and saturdays at Delano indoor field. Having soccer three days a week makes it hard to get her homework done. Recently Pachan got a concussion at practice. “ I was looking the other way and got hit in the back of the head with a ball” said Pachan. With a concession she is very behind in school, she is only able to go to half her classes, which makes for her have loads of homework to make up.

In a different perspective Junior Brady Hartman thinks 2nd semester is much easier than 1st semester. Its makes it easier having  a daily routine down, makes the day goes by faster. On top of having new classes, Hartman currently has hockey right after school and games every other day, with section playoffs coming up within the next two weeks.

“Hockey doesn’t really affect me getting homework done, I guess it affects more sleep than anything,”said Hartman.

Having far away games on school nights really take a toll on Hartman on how much sleep he gets. If Hartman does get homework on game days, it’s difficult for him to get it done fast enough to get a good nights rest.

With graduation just the around the corner Eric Newman has started getting ready for college. Thinking about where he wants to go and what he really wants to be when hes older. Newman has been taking more and more CIS classes, his second semester is more challenging than ever before.

“I have a bad case of senioritis. Even though I’m taking hard classes this quarter, because I feel like I was really slacking the last couple quarters,” said Newman.

He doesn’t like the fact his high school years are coming to end and has to start a new chapter in his life a lot sooner than he thought.

For seniors the year has less than four months left until they are done with high school, as for freshman, they are only half way done with their first year here.

“High school is very different, but its a lot more fun than the middle school,” Freshman Kora Dalchow.

Dalchow”s classes are definitely harder second semester than first semester. With science being her hardest subject this semester she will have to study and really focus more than she had to in first semester.
