Act Out Loud T-shirt Contest comes to a close

Students will be voting for their favorite T-shirt design on Monday following the close of the Act Out Loud T-shirt contest today.

Juniors Mark Bjork, Erin Mackethun, Cati Soppeland, and Avonlea Hubbard along with Senior Kirsten Kaufman started the Act Out Loud design contest to promote against distracted driving at Buffalo High School.

“Distracted Driving is anything that takes your eyes off the road.” says Mackethun.

Act out loud hosts a design competition every year with a new theme.  The competition has three parts.

“We are leading three design contests through the school.” said Mackenthun, “The first one is a T-shirt contest. The more T-shirt entries we get the more money we could raise.  The second is a sign, billboard or a poster doesn’t matter.  And act out loud has an app on Facebook and whichever school can get the most downloads wins.”

Soppeland found the idea off of the Business Professionals of America website and thought that it looked interesting and different than most programs to raise awareness.

“I thought it’d be fun and a good way bring awareness to the school about the harms of distracted driving.  I liked it and it seemed like a good idea,” Soppeland said.

Judging for students’ favorite designs will take place at all lunches on February 13.  The dates for the poster contest are still unannounced.

“I personally can’t wait to see all T-shirt designs,” said Mackenthun. “To see what other people think and to see the other ideas people come up with.”
